Seeking Justice for Women: Potential and Limits of International Solidarity Movements

Abstract The contribution aims at analysing the role of international solidarity movements in seeking justice for war crimes against women. Through example ‘comfort women’ case, article examines ways which these have used law instruments and institutions to promote idea an individual right reparation as a means by victims can obtain justice. Two specific legal features this case show movements’ engagement with over last decades: first, establishment Women’s Tokyo Tribunal, and, second, judicial mobilisation civil society actors before national courts. It is argued that informed concepts, paradigms, language legally analyse certain extent, they influenced some recent jurisprudential developments, especially arguments invoked courts decided on claims women’. Ultimately, demonstrates how towards group be essential order, achieve post-conflict progressively develop advancement standards protection individuals.
